Today I present my first-ever vlog. Check it out:
If vlogs really aren’t your thing (and I SO get that…I can only watch them when my son’s in bed), here’s what I talk about:
I’m playing with something new, and I’m really excited about it. It’s a practice called “Noticing,” and it’s all about mindfulness—paying attention to my physical experience as I go through my day.
I’ve always had trouble with the concept of mindfulness. To me (and I’m not saying this is actually right), it’s felt like paying attention to my thoughts. Which is fine…except then I’m thinking about my thoughts…and then thinking about thinking about my thoughts…and on and on until I’m even more spacey and up in my head than I was when I started trying to be mindful. It’s never really clicked for me.
What I’m finding is that the way to break that cycle, and get me back into the moment and back into my body, is to start paying attention to what I’m experiencing in this moment. What do I see? What do I hear? What can I smell? What can I touch? As I notice these things, I find myself getting back into my body, getting focused and present again.
If you want to join me, I’d love to read about what you notice too.
